CHIPS - HEUGE PITCHER - SHINO

Enjoy these pieces in many ways: to savor sake in a guinomi (small sake cup), or to serve tea, sauces, or even noodle broth at the table.

The four colors - the glossy black of Setoguro, the soft, natural white of Shino, the deep, refined green of Oribe, and the warm yellow of Kiseto - are the traditional shades of Mino pottery, inherited from the Momoyama period more than 400 years ago.
These colors are ideal for highlighting the flavors of Japanese ingredients.

  • As each piece is handmade, slight variations in size and shape may occur.
  • The glaze used tends to run or be irregular, making each piece unique. Enjoy the lively character of the glaze on each item.
  • The clay used may result in a rough surface or edges, and even small holes.
  • Black specks on the glaze or a reddish tint on the base may appear. This is due to the presence of iron powder in the kiln and ferrous elements in the clay, and does not affect use.
  • Some pieces may have small cracks (crazing) when purchased or develop them over time. This does not affect use.
◎ Crazing appears about one month after firing, during cooling, due to differences in shrinkage between the clay and glaze. It may be accompanied by a small, high-pitched sound, similar to a "ting", which gradually fades, although the crazing continues to develop. Enjoy this metallophone-like chime during the first uses.

MINO POTTERY

The Mino region is recognized as Japan's first center of ceramic production. With a history spanning more than 1,000 years, it has developed a wide variety of pieces suited to the styles of each era.

Among Mino's 15 traditional craft styles, four types - Setoguro, Kiseto, Shino, and Oribe - stand out for the balance of their colors and have become emblematic of Mino ceramics.
Continuing this tradition inherited from the period when it was affectionately nicknamed "Hyôgemono" (meaning "charming objects"), we offer tableware designed for everyday modern use, to be passed down to future generations.

Discover the beauty of Mino ceramics, which has graced Japanese tables for more than 1,000 years, through the combination of ancestral and contemporary techniques, clay, and glazes.
Immerse yourself in the aesthetic world of the Heuge style through this collection.

The four emblematic colors of Mino ceramics - the glossy black of Setoguro, the natural, soft white of Shino, the deep, understated green of Oribe, and the warm yellow of Kiseto - were inherited from the Momoyama period more than 400 years ago.
They are ideal for enhancing the ingredients of Japanese cuisine.
