Konstella case

The briefcase from TOYO STEEL

Konstella is a new brand of elegant suitcases designed by the Japanese steel company Toyo Steel. Based in Osaka, this company specializes in lightweight steel utility products such as toolboxes and carts. It is therefore surprising that something as elegant as this comes from a company whose core business is the manufacturing of lightweight steel utility items. But Toyo Steel is accustomed to using its unwavering ingenuity to merge the worlds of style and utility.

The founder of Toyo Steel, Keiyu Hisashi, had an eye for design. He created the Trusco Deluxe toolbox in 1947. The design has remained largely unchanged and its blue enamel finish is instantly recognizable. It has been awarded the Good Design Awards in Japan as well as by the Museum of Modern Art.

Although the original founder passed away in 2014, his spirit is still present in the company. In 2016, the company partnered with the product development studio Iroyori to create Konstella. Drawing inspiration from the constellations in the sky, the team set out to design a transport case that allows the modern, mobile professional to transform any space into a office. By sourcing leather from Ehime Prefecture, which has a millennia-old history of leather production, and combining it with its own pressing method, the company created its line of Konstella cases.
