KAKIMORI inks and the inkstand: custom Japanese ink

Inkstand by KAKIMORI, encres en flacons colorés

A color is never completely neutral. It speaks of a season, a mood, a memory. KAKIMORI understands this and makes ink a small territory of emotion, between house shades that carry a name and a workshop where you create your own.

Inkstand by KAKIMORI, inks in colorful bottles

Inks that carry a name, and a story

The house named its numbered series after Japanese words that tell a sensation. Kurun evokes the dance of vine shoots, Zabun the blue of the vast ocean and its waves, Po the color of modesty, the one that makes you blush. These are pigment inks, water-based, that flow equally well with a dip pen or a fountain pen, in a rounded bottle you won’t want to put away.

Colour specimen, according to the seasons

Alongside the numbered inks, the Colour specimen series gathers seasonal shades imagined by the team through their encounters with color. The palette evolves throughout the year, for those who like to be surprised and change their hue.

The inkstand, create your own color

Opened in 2013, the inkstand by KAKIMORI is the house’s custom ink workshop. Starting from base inks, available in fourteen mixable shades like Robe bleue, you measure drop by drop until you get your color, on site in Kuramae or remotely. This is the experience that made the brand known.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are KAKIMORI inks suitable for fountain pens?

Yes. These are water-based inks designed for both dip pens and fountain pens. Use the pen regularly and rinse it with clean water if the ink has dried.

What is the inkstand by KAKIMORI?

It is the brand’s custom ink workshop. You create your color from base inks, available in fourteen mixable shades, either on site or remotely.

What is the difference between the numbered inks and Colour specimen?

The numbered inks, from Po to Koton, form the permanent range. Colour specimen offers seasonal shades that change throughout the year.

How should I store a KAKIMORI ink?

Close the bottle tightly and keep it away from direct light. A pigmented ink sometimes benefits from being gently stirred before use.
