FROM SCULPTURE TO WRITING: THE MULTIFACETED ART OF YOSHIKAZU TAKAI
Born in 1952 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, Yoshikazu Takai embodies an artistic transformation that spans fields and generations. Initially renowned as a sculptor, he expanded his influence into other areas of art and design.
Takai made a notable debut on the art scene with a solo exhibition in 1987 at the prestigious Akiyama Gallery in Tokyo, marking the start of a distinguished career. Between 1987 and 1995, his successive exhibitions received acclaim both nationally and internationally. His large sculptures became landmarks in public spaces across Japan, adding a unique aesthetic touch to famous parks and plazas.
However, change has always been a constant in Takai’s artistic approach. About ten years ago, he took an unexpected turn by focusing on the subtle world of stationery. This shift led to the creation of his stationery brand, "TETZBO".
Applying his unique artistic perspective, Takai developed stationery items that tell stories while encouraging individual creativity. Each "TETZBO" item carries the imprint of his sculptor’s background while exploring new artistic territories.
By making this bold change, Yoshikazu Takai demonstrated that artistic expression is not limited to a single medium. His transformation from a renowned sculptor to an inventive stationery creator illustrates his ability to reinvent himself while maintaining the emotional depth and complexity that characterize his work.
Today, he remains a lasting source of inspiration, affirming that a true artist is one who constantly evolves, continually innovates, and always captivates.

TETZBO EXPERTISE
What makes these pens unique
The metal lathe
Each pen body is hand-turned on a workshop lathe. No industrial series, a gesture repeated piece by piece.
Le Chibien, metal pencil
The signature creation mimics a small freshly sharpened pencil, made of solid brass. Chibien means mini pencil.
Brass and iron
Unrefined base metals that darken and polish over time with handling.
No identical parts
Shapes, grooves, and finishes vary slightly from one piece to another. Your pen is truly one of a kind.
Repairable, rechargeable
The refills are standard references, and an Allen key comes with models that can be disassembled.
A master, a signature
Yoshikazu Takai makes it himself. Buying a TETZBO means receiving the work of a single pair of hands.
