Opinel Knife - N°08 Baroudeur Garnet
The OPINEL N°08 Baroudeur in garnet is a versatile folding knife made in Savoy. It features an 8.5 cm Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade, a perforated handle with a cord for attaching it, and a Virobloc® safety ring that locks the blade in both the open and closed positions.
The N°08 adventurer is the most versatile folding knife.
Its pierced handle and cord make it practical to attach. Its stainless steel blade is corrosion-resistant. The handle is comfortable in the hand. The safety system, the Virobloc®, locks the blade in the open and closed positions.
Blade: Modified Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. It is corrosion-resistant thanks to the addition of chromium and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.5% gives it an excellent edge.
Blade shape: The classic Opinel blade has adopted a Yatagan shape. The Yatagan shape is inspired by a traditional Turkish sabre, with the tip pointing upward. The blade is sharpened with an exclusive convex profile that ensures the blade's strength and allows for effective resharpening.
Handle: Made from PEFC-certified beechwood sourced from sustainably managed forests in the Jura and Vercors, this lightly grained white wood is ideal for applying color. The handle is varnished to protect it from moisture and dirt.
Safety ring: Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted on all folding knives from the N° 06 onward. Made from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during transport).

A light wood, a blade that folds back
The handle is made from PEFC-certified beech or hornbeam sourced from the forests of the Jura and Vercors. The blade folds into it, and the Virobloc ring locks it in both the open and closed positions. The steel is Swedish-origin modified 12C27, enriched with chromium for corrosion resistance, with a carbon content of at least 0.5% that gives it its sharp edge. The N°08 is the most versatile folding knife. Its handle has a hole for a cord, making it practical to hang, while remaining comfortable in the hand.

Know-how
The detail of a folding knife
The Yatagan blade
The classic shape of the Opinel blade is inspired by a traditional Turkish saber, with the tip pointing upwards. It is this Yatagan profile that gives the knife its recognizable silhouette.
Convex sharpening
The blade is sharpened with an exclusive convex profile. It ensures the blade's strength and allows for effective resharpening.
The Virobloc ring
The Virobloc is the knife's safety system. The ring locks the blade in the open position for cutting, and in the closed position for carrying.
A stainless steel
The modified Sandvik 12C27 steel receives an addition of chromium that makes it corrosion-resistant. Therefore, it requires no special maintenance after use.
Carbon content
At least 0.5% carbon in the blade steel. That’s what gives it an excellent, long-lasting edge.
Perforated handle and cord
The pierced handle holds a cord: the knife can be hung wherever you want and maintains a comfortable grip.
