The city of Seki
The pristine NAGARA river flows nearby – this historic city is located an hour’s drive from Nagoya city. The city of Seki is home to many artisans, each with different specialties such as the famous UKAI and KNIVES.
History of SEKI knives
SEKI knives are special because they follow in the footsteps of the first craftsman 780 years ago. Master blacksmith Hiroshige moved to Seki from Kyushu and began making swords. The blacksmiths of Seki and the city of Seki honor Hiroshige as the founder of Seki sword forging, and the city of Seki also holds the 供養祭り (Kuyo-matsuri - memorial festival) every year on November 8th.
Seki has produced many expert sculptors such as Kanemoto Magoroku (孫六兼元) and Kanesada Izumimori (和泉守兼定).
