How does a travel notebook work?

The beauty of this system lies in the fact that you choose the components, allowing you to design a custom notebook. Let’s explore all the options together.

The cover

It is a piece of flat, thick leather with holes punched to hold elastic bands. That’s all you need to know. The more you use your travel notebook, the more the cover develops a patina. The scratches it accumulates over time give it the look of having traveled a lot, and the cover will adapt to the particular setup of your notebook as you use it, much like a baseball glove molding to your hand over time. The cover is available in several colors such as black, brown, camel, olive, and blue....

The bands

The elastic bands are an integral part of the Traveler's Notebook system. There are bands that hold the inserts inside the cover, and another band that keeps the notebook closed.

Pro tip: when you receive your new travel notebook, it comes in a cardboard envelope sealed with a band. Keep it! It’s a good spare for the band that keeps the notebook closed.

TRAVELER'S COMPANY also sells thin and oversized rubber bands called “connecting bands,” which you can use to link inserts together to add extra components to your notebook.

When you buy your notebook, the default bands usually match the color of the chosen cover, but you can purchase a set of bands in different colors and swap them out.
