Seki City
The immaculate NAGARA river flows nearby - this ancient city is located an hour's drive from the city of Nagoya. The city of Seki is home to many artisans, each of whom has different specialties such as the famous UKAI and the KNIFE.
History of SEKI knives
The knives of SEKI are special because they follow the traces of the first craftsman 780 years ago. The master blacksmith Hiroshige moved to Seki from Kyushu and began making swords. The blacksmiths of Seki and the city of Seki honor Hiroshige as the founder of the Seki sword forge, and the city of Seki also holds the 供養祭り (Kuyo-matsuri - memorial festival -) every year on November 8.
Seki produced many expert sculptors such as Kanemoto Magoroku (孫六兼元) and Kanesada Izumimori (和泉守兼定).
