About SABATO

"The Porcelains" is a porcelain brand launched in 2011 by cross-stitch embroidery designer Makoto Ozu and porcelain designer Kuntaro Abe. Under the theme "The Porcelains make a new porcelain!", they offer fun tableware and interior items for everyday use.

Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture

The calm taste of the weekend, served in ceramic

Sabato pieces are about the weekend, that slower time savored around the table. The series’ ceramic tableware is made in Japan, in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, a region renowned for its centuries-old porcelain tradition. The cups are designed by Drill Design, a Tokyo-based studio whose work on form primarily serves illustration. On these cups, the ivory glaze acts as a canvas for Aoi Huber Kono’s motifs: waves, animals, and nature.

What makes a Sabato piece

01

Hasami, Nagasaki

Sabato tableware is made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, where porcelain has been produced for centuries.

02

Glazed ceramic

The Sabato teapot is made of Hasami ceramics and coated with a glaze. It is dishwasher- and microwave-safe.

03

Drill Design, Tokyo

The cups are designed by Drill Design, a studio based in Tokyo. The shape of the product is designed to best express the illustration it carries.

04

One illustrator

The designs are signed by Aoi Huber Kono, an artist based in southern Switzerland. They feature waves, animals, and nature as their subjects.

05

Ivory as a canvas

The ivory enamel serves as the background for the colorful designs. On this light surface, each pattern stands out clearly.

06

A flared shape

Cups and mugs gently flare outward toward the bottom. This shape was designed to let you fully appreciate the pattern.
