Colors born from ordinary memories
The Colour Specimen series starts from a simple idea: to keep a record of the colors encountered in everyday moments. A strawberry jam that a grandmother made every year, a vintage egg cosy found at a Finnish market at the beginning of summer, the green of the ficus that arrived at home in spring. Kakimori selects these colors season after season, then entrusts their production to two Japanese companies. Turner Colour Works Ltd. makes the ink, Yamamura Glass Bottle Manufacturing produces the bottle. All that’s left is to open the bottle and write.

THE COLOUR SPECIMEN SERIES
What sets these inks apart
A color, a memory
Each shade comes from a specific encounter, the strawberry jam of a grandmother or the green of a ficus in spring.
Seasonal colors
Kakimori composes a selection of colors related to the seasons, from the beginning of the Finnish summer to the midnight sun.
Ink by Turner Colour Works
The ink manufacturing is entrusted to Turner Colour Works Ltd., a Japanese color manufacturer.
The bottle by Yamamura Glass
The glass bottle is produced by Yamamura Glass Bottle Manufacturing, a Japanese glassmaker.
Names from everyday life
Strawberry jam, hard-boiled egg in Finland, midnight sun, scent of fig. The name tells where the color comes from.
A collection apart
Colour specimen forms its own collection at Kakimori, distinct from the house's numbered inks.
