KAKIMORI is a Japanese writing tools house located in Kuramae, a craftsman district in Tokyo. Its writing shop opened in 2010 around a simple idea: to bring pleasure back to the act of writing, and the brand now designs nibs, pen holders, inks, notebooks, and pens.

A writing house born in Kuramae
The house has its roots in an office supplies business founded in 1961. In 2010, it opened a shop in Kuramae designed as a place to try paper and tools before choosing. KAKIMORI’s credo, writing with joy, guides the entire collection, from nib to ink.
Custom ink, the brand’s signature
In 2013, KAKIMORI opened the inkstand, a workshop where you compose your own ink color drop by drop from pigmented bases. The brand also offers its own inks with Japanese names, water-based inks formulated for both fountain pens and dip pens. See KAKIMORI inks and the inkstand.
The nib, pen holder, and dip pen
The heart of the collection remains fountain writing. You choose a nib in stainless steel or brass, then a pen holder in cherry wood, aluminum, or urushi lacquer. You dip, write, and wipe. Everything is explained in our guide to writing with a fountain pen.
Notebooks and pens
The custom notebook, where you compose the cover, paper, and binding in the Tokyo shop, is another signature of the house. Online, you can find the brand’s finished notebooks, including the A5 format and the Mini note system with interchangeable covers. KAKIMORI also designs a rechargeable aluminum pen, available in ballpoint, fountain, and roller. Details in the KAKIMORI notebook guide and the aluminum pen guide.
