À propos de SAITO WOOD CO

In 1948, Isamu Saito founded "Saito Woodworks" in the village of Ieyama, located in the Shimokawane district, Shizuoka Prefecture. In 1956, the company completed the production of a set of boxes using the innovative technology of cylindrical molded plywood. Two years later, in 1958, the company moved to the city of Shizuoka and became "Saito Plywood Crafts."

In 1959, the famous basket "No.901" was finalized, a product that remains iconic to this day. In 1966, the subsidiary "Saito Wood" was created to serve the domestic market. It focuses on selling products to inns, hotels, and restaurants, a business that continues to this day.

The technique used

Molded plywood is made by layering and gluing wood veneer sheets 0.2 to 1 mm thick, arranged with cross grain, in a mold subjected to pressure and heat. This technique allows for a solid, thin, and lightweight curved shape, characteristic of plywood.

The brand

A useful object, made of wood

Saito Wood designs wooden wastebaskets in teak or walnut depending on the room. Each basket is crafted with artisanal expertise, and its smooth finish highlights the wood's shades. Teak offers rich tones, walnut a deeper color, for the same design. The lines remain curved and the design minimalist, so the object fits into any type of interior.

Know-how

What a wooden basket requires

01

Two fuels

Teak for its rich shades, walnut for its deeper color. The shape remains the same, only the material changes.

02

A smooth finish

Each basket receives a smooth finish. It is what highlights the wood's shades.

03

Curved lines

The curved lines give the basket a soft look. It blends into the room without drawing attention.

04

A minimalist drawing

The design is minimalist, without ornamentation. It is the wood that gives the object its character.

05

The artisanal gesture

Each basket is crafted by artisans. It is this work that gives the smooth finish and the precision of the lines.

06

Two volumes

The M size and the L size have the same shape. The choice depends on the available space and the amount of paper.
