This is a lightweight and versatile knife.
The blade has a structure where sheets of hard blue steel are sandwiched between soft iron, making it more resistant to cracking. Thanks to its V-shaped double-edged blade, it can be used by both left- and right-handed users, regardless of your dominant hand.
There is a hole at the back of the handle, so you can pass a string through it.
There are three types of Higonokami in order of size: extra-large, large, medium.

À propos de HIGONOKAMI
The production of knives began in the 1890s in Hirata, in the village of Kurumi, Mishukuro district (now Miki). The Murakami clan and Komataro Nagao, founder of the lineage, were the first craftsmen. At that time, the knives were entirely handmade: the blades, cut from raw steel, were carefully forged, while the sheaths, made of brass or blackened iron, were decorated with engravings depicting people, horses, flowers, or landscapes.
Around 1891, Taisaburo Shigematsu, a hardware wholesaler, was inspired by a knife brought back from Kagoshima to design a foldable, practical, and portable model. This new type of knife, named « Higonokami », marked the beginning of the production of the famous folding knives. Since then, their shape has evolved into the one known today.
Registered in 1909, the Higonokami brand is protected. Although several manufacturers have participated in its production in the past, Nagao Kanekoma Seisakusho is now the only one allowed to use this iconic name, heir to 5 generations of master cutlers.
A blade that folds into the handle
A Higonokami is recognized by its textured chrome iron handle, into which the blade folds. The blade is made of Japanese-style stainless steel, sharpened in a V shape on both sides, making it usable by both left- and right-handed users. On the brass-finish models, hard blue steel sheets are sandwiched between soft iron, a construction that makes it more resistant to cracks. The knife remains lightweight and can be worn on a cord thanks to the hole drilled at the back of the handle. Four sizes are offered, from the SS at 95 mm to the LL at 215 mm open.

What makes a Higonokami
The sandwich blade
On the brass-finish models, hard blue steel sheets are sandwiched between two layers of mild iron. The blade gains resistance to cracking.
The V-shaped edge
The blade is sharpened on both sides, in a V shape. It cuts equally well for both left-handed and right-handed users.
The textured iron handle
The handle is made of textured iron, chrome-plated on the L model, with a brass finish on the SS, S, and LL models.
Elongated silk
The elongated silk is featured on the L and LL models. The SS and S sizes do not have it.
The hole for the cord
At the back of the handle, a hole allows a string to pass through. This way, the knife can be kept on the wrist, on a bag, or on a keychain.
Four formats
From the SS, 95 mm in total and 40 mm blade, to the LL, 215 mm open and 95 mm blade. The S and L are placed in between.
