TOYO STEEL was founded in 1969 in the Osaka region, the industrial heart of Japan. The company set a simple goal: to press steel with such precision that the utilitarian object becomes obvious, almost definitive. The design of the boxes has hardly changed since.
Pressing rather than welding
In the factory, huge presses stamp each box body from a single sheet of steel. No assembly, no welding, so no weak points: the strength comes from the shape itself, and the rounded corners are created in the same motion. This economy of means is what gives the object its longevity.
From the workshop to design
Designed for mechanics and craftsmen, the boxes gradually made their way into offices, kitchens, and artists' studios, becoming a classic of Japanese design.
